Keystroke Point of Sale Help

Sales Manager - Coupons - Change Line Item Product Codes - Merge Same Item Settings

The example below describes how the Merge Same Item Line Item Parameter works with Coupons.

If Merge Same Items is set to any option other than No and a line item's Product Code is changed to match a coupon code, then the same Inventory item is entered on the sales transaction again, Keystroke merges it with the existing line item and uses the altered Product Code for both.

For example, the Customer presents the following coupon:

- $3.00 off of two boxes of Captain Sludge Cereal
- Coupon code: 5 22912 11108
- The first box of cereal is entered on the sales transaction as Captain Sludge Cereal, Product Code: 29876512001, Qty: 1.
- The Product Code doesn't match the coupon since digits two through six are not the same.
- The Product Code is changed on the Line Item Detail screen to 22291212001 so that digits two through six are 22912.
- The second box of cereal is entered on the sales transaction and Keystroke merges it with the line item for the first box as Captain Sludge Cereal, Product Code: 22291212001, Qty: 2
- The coupon is entered on the sales transaction.
- Keystroke matches the coupon with the Product Code for both boxes of cereal and applies the coupon discount to the sales transaction.

If Merge Same items is set to No and a line item's Product Code is changed to match a coupon code, then the same Inventory item is entered on the transaction again, it will appear as a new line item with the original Inventory item's Product Code.

Using the previous example:

- Everything works the same way as in the example above until the second box of cereal is entered on the sales transaction.
- Keystroke enters the second box as a new line item Captain Sludge Cereal, Product Code: 29876512001, Qty: 1 (using the Inventory item's Product Code).
- When the coupon is entered on the sales transaction Keystroke can only match it with the Product Code from the first box of cereal but not the second and therefore cannot apply the coupon discount.

Note: Keystroke stores the coupon code (a UPC code that starts with the #5) in the Product Code field of the coupon's Line Item.
