When the Entry Field is set to Description, enter or scan the item's Description to add the item to the Sales Transaction Item Entry screen.
To set the default Entry Field to Description:
- Select Parameters from the Sales Manager Transaction menu.
- Select Line Items.
- On the Line Item Entry Parameters screen, select Entry Field.
- From the Entry Field list, select Description.
- Select [OK] or press [F10] to save.
If the barcode does not scan or the description is not entered correctly, press [Ins] or use the Lookup List button to display the Inventory Lookup List.
If the Description Check Line Item Entry Parameter is ON, the Inventory Lookup List attempts to locate an Inventory record with a matching Description. If one is not located, the Inventory Lookup List stops on the Inventory record with the closest matching Description.
If the Description Check Line Item Entry Parameter is OFF, Keystroke does not attempt to locate an Inventory record with a matching Description field. Instead, it accepts any Description as a non-Inventory item even if it matches the Description field of an Inventory record.
Note: If Alternate Search Fields have been enabled in the Configuration Manager Database Settings, Keystroke also looks in each Alternate Search Field for a matching Description. If an Inventory Item with a matching Description is located, it is entered on the sales transaction screen.
If more than one matching Inventory item is located the Which One? List is displayed and an item must be manually selected.
If Keystroke does not find an Inventory item with a matching Description, the "Item not Found! - Proceed with Non-Inventory Item?" message is displayed. If Ok is selected, Keystroke accepts the entry as a non-Inventory line item. If Cancel is selected, Keystroke returns to the Entry Field.
Note: The Sell Item Not in Inventory Security Level can affect Description entry. If the Sales Transaction Type's security does not allow the Clerk sell non-Inventory items, and if
the Description Check Line Item Entry Parameter is ON, then when the Clerk enters
a Description that does not match any Inventory record, the "Item not Found!" message is displayed. To continue with the transaction, the Clerk must either enter an Inventory item, or delete the line item.
Note about using Coupons: If Keystroke's Coupon Item feature is in use, the coupon UPC code may be entered or scanned into the Description Entry Field as long as the Description Check Line Item Entry Parameter is ON and Keystroke will process the coupon code as though it had been entered or scanned into the Product Code Entry Field. If the Description Check Line Item Entry Parameter is OFF, Keystroke does not recognize coupon codes entered or scanned into the Description Entry Field.
