Keystroke Point of Sale Help

Database Manager - Inventory Database - More Data Screen - Parent

The Parent field defines the Child item's Parent item and displays the Parent item Stock Number and Description.

The Parent item is the source from which the Child item obtains automatic On Hand Quantity replenishment when it is sold below its specified Minimum Quantity.

Keystroke automatically replenishes the Child item Quantity On Hand by breaking down a predefined quantity of the Parent item (as determined by the Child Item Multiplier field value).

To specify a Child item's Parent item, either type the appropriate Stock Number or press [Ins] and select the Parent item from the Lookup List of Inventory items. After it has been selected, the Description of the Parent item is displayed to the right of the Parent Stock Number.

A Parent item is an item (typically the Order Unit received from a Vendor) that can be broken down into smaller selling units that are not received from the Vendor. The smaller units can then be sold and reported on separately.

For example:

- A case of soft drinks may be a Parent item which may be broken down into six-packs which are sold individually.

- The six-pack of soft drinks may be a Parent item which may be broken down into individual cans to sell.

The smaller unit is the Child, so the six-pack is the Child of the case and the can is the Child of the six-pack.

When an item that has a Parent item is sold:

- If the Child item's On Hand Quantity remains at or above its Minimum Quantity, nothing happens to the Parent item.

- If the Child item's On Hand Quantity drops below its Minimum Quantity, Keystroke automatically subtracts one unit of the Parent item from Inventory. That single unit of the Parent item is broken down into the number of units defined by the Child item's Multiplier field and added to the Child item's Quantity On Hand.

For example:

- A six-pack of Stock #61 - Pepsi Cola (6-pk.) is sold which brings its On Hand Quantity down to 3 which is lower than its Minimum Quantity of 4.

- Keystroke automatically subtracts 1 unit (a case) from its Parent item, Stock #62 - Pepsi Cola (Case) and adds 4 six-packs (which is the value in the Multiplier field on the Child item) to the Quantity On Hand for Stock #61 bringing the total number of six- packs up to 7.
