The Sales Payment Types Security Levels settings define the five usage and display Security Levels for the payment.
Add New Payment: Allow a Clerk to add this payment to a transaction.
Edit Payment: Allow a Clerk to edit the existing payment on a transaction.
Display Ref. Characters (Add): Allow a Clerk to view the Reference Field when adding this new payment to a transaction. Set to -1 by default on Credit Card and ATM/Debit Card payment types so the credit card number is not visible to the Clerk when the card information is entered, swiped or chip read.
Display Ref. Characters (Edit): Allow a Clerk to view the Reference Field when editing a payment on an existing transaction. Set to 3 by default on Credit Card and ATM/Debit Card payment types so the credit card number can be viewed only by managers and supervisors.
Enter Auth Code: Allow a Clerk to enter an Authorization Code on this payment type. It is normally set to a low number like 0 to allow only managers and supervisors to enter an Authorization Code that was obtained using a Voice Authorization. The global Payment - Edit Auth Code Field Security Level in the Sales Manager Security Levels must also be met in order to gain access to the Authorization Code field on any payment.
Note: All of the above security levels should be set to low numbers whenever sensitive information (such as credit card numbers) is to be entered in the Reference Field. If the Parse Reference Sales Payment Type setting is enabled, the Display Ref. Characters (Add) and Display Ref. Characters (Edit) levels are automatically set to -1 and 3 respectively.
