Database Manager - Inventory Database - Order Data Screen - Item Weight

The Item Weight field may be used for either per-unit or tare weight.

The way that the Item Weight field functions depends on if the Weight value is positive or negative and on if the Use Scale field is enabled.

When Use Scale is disabled and the value in the Item Weight field is a positive number, it is defined as the item's Sale Unit weight which is used to calculate total weight for reports and forms.

When Use Scale is disabled and the value in the Item Weight field is a negative number, nothing happens because this scenario is not realistic.

When Use Scale is enabled and the value in the Item Weight field is a positive number, it is defined as the item's Sale Unit weight.

- The scale reports the total weight.

- The total weight is divided by the per-unit weight and the result is the total number of items being weighed.

For Example:

The Item Weight field value is 1.5 and the scale reports a total weight of 4.5. The total weight (4.5) is divided by the Item Weight (1.5). The result is 3 items being weighed.

When Use Scale is enabled and the value in the Item Weight field is a negative number, it is defined as the item's tare weight (the weight of the item's package or container).

- The scale reports the total weigh of a single item in its package or container.

- The tare weight is subtracted from the total weight, and the result is the weight of the item.

For Example:

The Item Weight field value is -.5 and the scale reports a total weight of 11.75. The tare weight (.5) is subtracted from the total weight(11.75) and the result is the weight of the item (11.25).

Note: If the total weight reported to the program is less than the tare weight, a warning message is displayed asking for a new weight to be entered. Also, when an item is set up for tare weight, do not also adjust the scale for tare weight or the tare weight is subtracted twice.
